What Is The Polyester Yarn DTY?

Draw textured yarn (DTY for short) is a textured yarn type of polyester chemical fiber. It uses polyester chips (PET) as raw material and uses high-speed spinning to make polyester.

Pre-oriented yarn (POY) is processed by drawing and false twisting. It has the characteristics of short process, high efficiency and good quality.

Features

In addition to the characteristics of general polyester high breaking strength and elastic modulus, excellent heat setting, good resilience, heat resistance, light resistance, strong corrosion resistance, easy to wash and quick dry, it also has high bulkiness, It has the characteristics of good heat insulation, comfortable hand feeling and soft luster.

DTY Quality Indicators

Strength, elongation

As for the strength of fibers, the higher the better. For example, most of the damage to polyester fabrics is not caused by insufficient fiber strength. For polyester low-elastic yarn, a strength of 2.5cN/dtex and an elongation of 12% to 30% can meet the requirements for weaving and wearing. The higher its toughness (strength × elongation/2), the better. Fibers with high toughness not only have good intrinsic quality, but are also wear-resistant and fold-resistant. In DTY production, the strength and elongation are generally controlled by adjusting the stretching ratio of the filament. As the draw ratio increases, the strength of the filament increases and the elongation decreases. However, when the draw ratio is too large, the strength and elongation of the filament decrease.

Wool

At present, one of the main quality problems of low-elastic yarn is the production of filament. The existence of filament will affect the smooth progress of the subsequent spinning process and the quality of the fabric. Different weaving processes have different requirements for wool. Low elasticity yarn for weaving needs to be woven after twisting, sizing or netting, so the requirements for wool are not strict. The low-elastic yarn used in water-jet looms does not want to have lint. In knitting processing, weft knitting yarn has a short weaving process and low speed, so the requirements for wool are not strict; while warp knitting yarn has a high production speed, and each yarn has to pass through the eye of the needle, and the presence of wool can easily cause breakage. Head should be strictly controlled.

Stiffness and tight spots

Stiff silk refers to the segmented, continuous and non-fluffy tightly twisted silk that appears on the DTY. Tight spots refer to less severe stiff silk, that is, the continuous length of stiff silk is very short, almost point-like. Stiffness and tight spots can be judged by visual inspection and appearance classification. Stiff silk can also be identified on the dyed sock tube. It is darker than normal silk and has a strip shape. Tight spots have dark spots on the socks, which are generally difficult to distinguish.

FDY, POY, DTY, ATY

FDY fully drawn yarn

Full name: FULL DRAW YARN full stretched yarn (Taiwan called full stretched yarn). Synthetic fiber filaments further prepared by spinning and drawing. The fiber has been fully stretched and can be directly used for textile processing.

Conventional fully drawn yarns include polyester and nylon, both of which are chemical fiber filaments. FDY fabric feels smooth and soft and is often used to weave silk-like fabrics. It is widely used in clothing and home textiles.

POY pre-oriented yarn

Full name: PRE-ORIENTED YARN or PARTIALLY ORIENTED YARN. It refers to the incompletely drawn chemical fiber filaments obtained by high-speed spinning with an orientation degree between unoriented yarns and drawn yarns. Compared with undrawn yarn, it has a certain degree of orientation and good stability, and is often used as a special yarn for drawn false twisted textured yarn (DTY).

DTY stretch textured yarn

Full name: DRAW TEXTURED YARN. It is made of POY as raw yarn, which is stretched and false-twisted. Often have a certain degree of elasticity and shrinkage.

ATY air textured yarn

Invented by DuPont in the United States, the principle is to use air jet technology to intertwine the filament bundles to form irregular twisted filament loops, so that the filament bundles have fluffy terry-like yarns. The processed textured yarn has the properties of both filament and staple fiber yarns, with strong wooly feel, good hand feeling, and better coverage than staple fiber yarns.

How to identify

Pull by hand

Generally POY can be pulled longer, while FDY can be pulled less. Because POY is a pre-oriented yarn, it is not fully stretched, and the remaining elongation must be more than 50%; while FDY is a fully oriented yarn, and the remaining elongation is generally more than 40%, which is relatively stable.

Appearance

Polyester yarn DTY fibers are curly, POY and FDY fibers are straight, and FDY has better strength, while POY has weaker strength.
