What is the difference between polyester yarn and recycled polyester yarn?

2024-09-21

Recycled polyester yarn is an environmentally friendly recycled material, specifically refers to the use of waste polyester bottle flakes, spinning waste, bubble material, pulp blocks, etc. as raw materials. The waste bottle flakes are crushed and cleaned, and the mixture of various materials is dried, melt extruded, spun, wound, bundled, drawn, curled (at the same time, different oils are added during curling according to customer needs), relaxed and heat-set, and cut to form polyester staple fibers of different lengths. This product is very popular abroad, especially in developed economies in Europe and the United States, because it is waste recycling. It is used in suspenders, shirts, skirts, children's clothing, scarves, cheongsams, ties, handkerchiefs, home textiles, curtains, pajamas, bows, gift bags, sleeves, fashionable umbrellas, pillowcases, pillows, etc. Its advantages are good wrinkle resistance and shape retention.

Characteristics of polyester yarn

1. High strength. The strength of short fibers is 2.6~5.7cN/dtex, and that of high-strength fibers is 5.6~8.0cN/dtex. Due to its low hygroscopicity, its wet strength is basically the same as its dry strength. Its impact strength is 4 times higher than that of nylon and 20 times higher than that of viscose fiber.

2. Good elasticity. Its elasticity is close to that of wool. When stretched by 5% to 6%, it can almost be completely recovered. Its wrinkle resistance exceeds that of other fibers, that is, the fabric does not wrinkle and has good dimensional stability. Polyester fabric has high strength and elastic recovery ability. Therefore, it is durable, wrinkle-resistant and iron-free.

3. Heat resistance Polyester is made by melt spinning. The formed fibers can be heated and melted again. It is a thermoplastic fiber. The melting point of polyester is relatively high, while the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are relatively small. Therefore, the heat resistance and thermal insulation of polyester fiber are higher. It is the best among synthetic fibers.

4. Good thermoplasticity and poor melting resistance. Because polyester has a smooth surface and its internal molecules are tightly arranged, polyester is a fabric with good heat resistance among synthetic fiber fabrics. It has thermoplasticity and can be made into pleated skirts, and the pleats are long-lasting. At the same time, polyester fabrics have poor melting resistance and are prone to forming holes when encountering cigarette ash, sparks, etc. Therefore, when wearing, you should try to avoid contact with cigarette butts, sparks, etc.

5. Good wear resistance. The wear resistance is second only to nylon, which has good wear resistance, and is better than other natural fibers and synthetic fibers.

The difference between recycled polyester and polyester

Different production raw materials: Polyester is produced using fresh polyester as raw material, while recycled polyester is recycled from waste plastic bottles and textiles.

Different production methods: Polyester is synthesized through chemical reactions, while recycled polyester needs to be prepared through multiple steps such as recycling, crushing, washing, pulverizing, and melting. The cost and technical difficulty are higher than ordinary polyester.

Different performance: Recycled polyester has high wear resistance and durability, good moisture absorption and perspiration, as well as good softness and texture. It is an ideal choice for making high-quality fabrics. Although polyester also has certain durability and heat resistance, its overall performance is relatively weak.
